RACHEL

A CRY HEARD ON HIGH

Kol bramah nishma - there's a voice that's heard on high; a voice that's crying, bitter, bitter cries; it's the voice of Rachel, she's crying over her children being led into exile.

Jeremiah who lives through the very first exile describes to us two events. One which takes place On earth, hundreds of thousands of children of Rachel are leaving the land of Israel, they're being led away into captivity by Nebuchadnezzar's troops.

And in heaven, Rachel is crying; - she refuses to be consoled; - she is crying for her children because they are being led away. She's desolate.
